Seneca’s Jagger Wilson – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Uplink

Some athletes are born into their sport, and for Seneca High School’s Jagger Wilson, baseball was always a natural fit. “When I was younger, my brother and I would go and play outside with my dad,” Wilson recalled. “My dad said every time I would go outside, I would grab a baseball bat, and my brother would grab golf clubs. That is what has gotten me into the sport of baseball.” From those early days swinging a bat in the yard, Wilson’s love for the game only grew stronger, shaping him into the competitor he is today.

Wilson found inspiration in watching professional baseball, but his biggest influence has always been close to home. “When I was younger, I would always watch the MLB on our TV, and that inspired me to play,” he said. “My biggest influence and hater would have to be my dad. My dad pushes me to get all of my work done and get better. He’s my biggest hater. Whenever I do bad or not so great, he criticizes me and tells me what I should do better and how to fix it.”

This season, Wilson has seen a shift in the team’s chemistry. “I feel like our team’s chemistry is better than last year,” he said. “We only had two seniors last year, so we have had more time to grow a stronger bond between each other.” That unity has been a key factor in their performance on the field.

As a leader on the team, Wilson embraces the responsibility of setting an example. “I would say my role on the team is a leader,” he said. “I feel like the younger kids look up to me for being where I am right now. I prepare for it by being the best I can be every day, setting examples for everyone.”

Looking ahead, Wilson has big aspirations. “My goals for this season are to break the hits record and hopefully break as many as I can and get all-conference and all-district unanimous, and hopefully all-state,” he said. “I hope we win the district title and go on and keep winning.”
