Seneca’s Brant Laughlin – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by John Cotten Roofing

Wrestling is more than just a sport for Brant Laughlin—it’s a way of life. Competing for Seneca High School, Brant has already made his mark on the mat. “Winning state this year in wrestling along with getting second as a team this year in wrestling,” he said, recalling one of his proudest moments. But success didn’t come easy. “Lots of hard work and extra workouts,” he admitted, crediting his dedication to constant improvement.

Every athlete has a driving force behind their ambition, and for Brant, it’s his setbacks and the people who push him to be better. “My losses, and people who are willing to push me,” he shared when asked what motivates him. The hunger to improve fuels his training, making each practice an opportunity to sharpen his skills.

Brant knows he hasn’t reached this level of success alone. “First off is my parents for sure—they are always at every wrestling tournament no matter what and are willing to take me anywhere to better myself,” he said. But his support system extends beyond family. “Secondly is Coach Roark because he is willing to do anything to better myself in wrestling and will work out anytime with me no matter what. Lastly is Coach Sill because he is always there for me no matter what I’m going through and is willing to help me with anything I ask.” With this kind of support, Brant continues to grow as an athlete and a person.

While wrestling takes up much of his time, Brant also plays football, lining up at quarterback and safety. He stays involved in his school beyond athletics as well. “I’m part of the referees club with Coach Sherwood,” he shared. No matter what he’s doing, he takes pride in representing his school and town. “It means the world to me getting to wear Seneca on my chest when I wrestle.”

Looking ahead, Brant has big aspirations. “To wrestle in college somewhere,” he said, determined to take his talents to the next level. And through it all, he remains grounded in his faith. “All glory to God,” he said, a simple yet powerful statement that reflects his mindset both on and off the mat.
