Madison Collinsworth, a senior from Seneca High School, became a sports fan at a very young age. With a father who was a coach and a sister who was highly competitive, her interest in sports was all but assured, “My parents put me in every sport available, and I just fell in love with being an athlete.”
Madison is a three-sport athlete for the Indians, competing in basketball, golf, and softball. One wonders when she finds time to have a social life with all the time she puts in athletically. But the athletic side of her calendar is only half of it. Collinsworth is also president of the Seneca FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and has won districts and made it to state the past two years. She is a leader of the Indians’ chapter of the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and attends Racine Christian Church. She is a member of the Seneca Student Council and the prestigious National Honors Society. The true epitome of the student-athlete, Madison ranks number one in her class rank and boasts a 4.135 G.P.A.
When asked about what she is most looking forward to this year, Madison responded, “Spending my last season with the people I’ve played sports with my whole life and hopefully having a winning season.”
Collinsworth, an outfielder for the Indians’ softball team, and her teammates, finished last season with a 12-20 record. Collinsworth feels that there is a lot to be optimistic about for this years’ squad, but she can also see some challenges on the horizon, “We have a very small team with only 11 girls, and I just hope we make it through the season with no injuries. Then of course there’s the personal management of being in two sports at once and trying to be there for both of my teams. It can be tough.”
When one considers all of Madison’s leadership qualities, it is easy to see why she didn’t list a lot of personal accolades, but rather preferred to talk about the team and the legacy that she will leave behind, “As a senior, I think it is part of my role to set an example for the underclassman and to be approachable. I think we have worked a lot on building a more uplifting atmosphere as a team and are currently working hard and cleaning up where we seem to fall short.”
There was one personal goal that Collinsworth mentioned, but even that goal was both practical and selfless, “My goal this season is to leave everything on the field or the course. I want to be able to end both seasons and know I gave it my all for my last time.”
Following graduation in May, Madison plans to continue her education at the collegiate level with hopes of eventually becoming a pharmacist.
