Seneca band member Dakota Nelson recently spoke with Prep Sports.
PREP SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals are to pass my all my classes and be the first in my family to go to college. I also wish to become a better musician.
PREP SPORTS: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
I spent a week this August in Sturgis, South Dakota with my dad, grandma, and cousins. Motorcycles are a big part of my family, so to have the opportunity to ride my own bike during the Black Hills Rally was amazing.
PREP SPORTS: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
My favorite teacher has to be Mrs. Charles. Everyday, she brings so much joy to class and I love learning history and government with her. Also, our knowledge bow meets are so much fun with her as a sponsor.
PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite athletic memory?
Winning state for marching band. Marching band has been my favorite part of each year, and to end my senior year with the first 3A title is amazing.
PREP SPORTS: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Ethan Estes has left the biggest impact on me. I first met Ethan in sixth grade, and I have always looked up to him. In high school, he made jazz band the best time of my life, everyday something new.
PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
I love the bond between everyone within band. Everyone is here for a common goal, and will stand beside each other every step of the way.
PREP SPORTS: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
I would love to go to Maine with my dad. Maine has always been a place I’ve wanted to visit; with all its lighthouses.
PREP SPORTS: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
I would give the $500 to my parents. Without them, I would have nothing, so any opportunity to give back to them I will take.
PREP SPORTS: Do you participate in any community service projects?
My brother and I have volunteered at Faithful Friends in Neosho. I have also helped my grandma to organize some events she has participated in.
PREP SPORTS: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
Other than band and jazz band, I am in knowledge bowl, show choir (band), and TSA.
PREP SPORTS: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?
I am a member of National Honor Society, and have received an academic letter every year so far.
