Recently, Seneca cheer captain Taya Stewart spoke with Prep Sports to talk about who she is. Stewart shared that she is working to “grow as a leader. I am the captain of the cheer squad this year and it is such an honor but it is also a new role for me and so I am really hoping that I can become the best leader I can for these girls. Another goal is to just make the most out of this year. It’s senior year and I want to be able to say I did everything and that I made the most out of this year”.
“My favorite part about being on this team is without a doubt the bonds you form with the other girls. This team becomes like a family to you. I would consider these girls like my sisters which is amazing to have but also comes at a cost because we can definitely fight like sisters but we always end up making up and coming back together like nothing happened” said Stewart.
Together the Seneca cheerleaders have accomplished a lot. Stewart emphasized this by saying “I have so many wonderful memories but I would say my top 3 would be winning state obviously, cheering on the sidelines with the other girls every Friday, and going to cheer camp for a week with a big group of girls. Cheer camp is always the most exhausting week ever but in the same breath, it is always so much fun”.
Away from the team Stewart is “involved in Student Council which I have been a part of for four years, National Honor Society for the past two years and I have gotten my Academic Letter all four years of high school”. She also shows her love for the community at “Christmas time, my dad, brother and I all go and help with Shop with a Cop, I also sometimes help with the babies at my church and I coach a little girls cheer team”.
