When Seneca High School’s Danessa Macy first started in band, she was in the sixth grade. Now a junior at the high school, Macy said being part of the band is like being part of a really big family.
“I enjoy that we are a family. The band really is a big family. When someone goes to state or sectionals, everyone is behind you cheering you on. We all like to see each other individually and as a whole to succeed and it’s amazing being a part of it,” said Macy. “I think Seneca is a great school to go to because I truly believe everyone is involved in everyone else. We are such a small school that everyone knows and cares about each other. For instance, when a friend of mine was ranked third nationally in wrestling, the entire school knew and was cheering her on.”
The clarinet player said she has enjoyed many great memories as a member, but one certainly stands out.
“My favorite memory was when I first “smuggled” rubber chicken toys into the band stands [through her water jug]. The people around me were speechless, but everyone was passing them around, wanting to keep them. We squeaked them in the stands and from then on it became a tradition I do every home game,” said Macy.
Also a member of the volleyball, basketball and track teams at Seneca, Macy said she loves being part of the Seneca family. The junior is a leader in the FCA club as well. Macy is starting to look ahead to her future after high school.
“I don’t have it all figured out, but I’d like to attend Evangel or MSSU, then become a counselor for children,” said Macy.
