Seneca cheerleader Jacee Stephens spoke to Prep Sports recently sharing that “my sport has taught me how to respect and appreciate others and that I have to do my own job in order for everyone else to do theirs as well”. Stephens also shared that she began the cheer season wanting “to win state, and become an all stater”.
“My favorite part about being on this team is getting to make so many friends and the bond we all have with each other. I would never have the best friends I have today if it wasn’t for being on this team and I am so grateful for this sport pulling us together. I love that we have all grown up together and I don’t think I will ever have this bond with any other group of girls again” said Stephens.
Among them is fellow Seneca Lady Indian Taya Stewart who Stephens says “ has left the biggest impression on me because she has always strived to do her very best and is just a natural born leader and I admire her for that”. The two were together for Stephens favorite athletic moment “when the crowd went nuts when we hit every stunt at state”.
While discussing what inspires her Stephens expressed “My mom inspires me because she is the one that put me in cheer when I was little and she was part of the legacy that Seneca Cheer has today. When I think of Seneca Cheer I think of my mom because she helped build the program to what it is today and I appreciate her so much for that”.
Stephens herself has “helped coach 6th grade cheer for the 2023 season with Mina Merriman” and is a member of the Seneca Student Council stating “I like to be involved in helping the students out and being a voice for them”.
