When Ellie Olson talks about cheer, her voice fills with the kind of pride that only comes from years of dedication and hard work. “I am a senior and I have cheered since I was eight years old in third grade!” she said. That early start turned into a passion that has shaped not just her skills, but her leadership within Seneca High School’s powerhouse cheer program.
“This season has been influential and full of growth,” Ellie said. “I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to mentor the underclassmen while continuing to push myself in different aspects of the cheer program.” Her experience and work ethic have made her a role model for younger teammates who look to her for guidance and encouragement.
Ellie’s skill set reflects the balance of strength, grace, and precision that defines an elite cheerleader. “The strengths of my skill set are my tumbling, stunting, and performing,” she said. “Something I improved on this year was my flying skills and my ability to lead others!”
She credits the culture at Seneca High School for allowing her and her teammates to thrive both academically and athletically. “Seneca High School is a great place to be a student-athlete because the school makes sure you excel in your studies as well as improving in your sport,” she said.
When it comes to teammates, Ellie doesn’t hesitate to give credit where it’s due. “Kynley Laughlin impressed me this season with her improvement in flying,” she said. That spirit of support is one of the things she values most about the team dynamic.
Before taking the mat, Ellie relies on faith and positivity to center herself. “I mentally prepare myself for competition by praying and then going to my teammates to encourage them, it helps me feel ready when I help others get ready.”
Beyond cheer, Ellie is already focused on her next steps. “My goal for life after high school is to attend college to get a degree in nursing.”
Her inspiration comes from home. “My mom inspires me, she has always taught me to look at the positives and to be kind and encouraging to everyone, especially in cheer.”
And her list of accomplishments is nothing short of impressive: “The accomplishments I am most proud of are, three-time regional champion, three-time state champion, three-time All American Cheerleader and All state flyer.”
