Senior Addy Jones has compiled quite the resume as a student and cheerleader at Seneca High School. Not only has she performed as a varsity cheerleader since she was a freshman, but she has competed at nearly every position and is now captain of the team. It’s important to note that it is not just any team. The Indians are coming off of their fourth consecutive Missouri State title and will be looking for a fifth.
Seneca has built a powerful culture in cheer based on strong leadership, and as a senior and captain, Jones recognizes her responsibility in helping to build and sustain that culture, “I feel like my biggest role is to be encouraging. I think it is important to be a strong role model for the younger girls on the team, so they can continue the Seneca Cheer legacy for the years to come.”
The legacy Jones and her senior teammates will be leaving is that of champions. Seneca is currently a four-time state champion, and they’re not yet finished. Besides looking for a fifth straight state championship, the Indians will be looking to display their talents on a national level, “We are adding a little more to our plate by stepping up our game – not only our skills – but possibly competing at NCA High School Nationals in Dallas, Texas and Gameday State. We always strive to be our best, so we always have to stay on top of our game.”
Despite her successes, Jones has managed to remain grounded, “It’s always a goal to win state. My personal goals are to lead my team in the best way possible and hopefully leave a positive impact on the younger girls that they can carry with them in the coming years. While I love sideline cheerleading, competition cheer is where it all started for me, and competing with my girls is one of my favorite things.”
At the time of this interview, Jones and the Indians had just finished cheer camp in Lake of The Ozarks where Jones earned her 4th All-American title and was named the camp’s Top All-American. She is a three time All-State Cheerleader in the categories of Jumps and Tumbling and last year earned Class 3A Top All-State tumbler. She hopes to be named All-State for the fourth consecutive year.
After graduation, Addy’s plans are to attend flight school to earn her commercial piloting license. She hopes to work for a regional carrier while getting hours to earn Captain status so she can travel the world.
