Q&A with Seneca’s Cort Hardy – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Visit Wichita

Seneca boys basketball coach Cort Hardy spoke with Prep Sports about the team.

PREP SPORTS: What are the goals of the team this season?

Our short-term goal as a team this season is to take one game at a time. Our long-term goals are to win a Big 8 Conference title, win the three tournaments that we play in, and win a district championship. From there we look to try and make a deep playoff run.

PREP SPORTS: What was the team’s best moment from last season?

I think our team’s best moment from last season was a road win in Nevada. That win really kickstarted our winning streak and led us to a district championship.

PREP SPORTS: Who is the team’s dynamic duo, and why?

Our team’s most dynamic duo would be Ethan Altic and Jace Schulte. These two are always causing disruption on defense and they feed off of each other offensively. They will be a fun tandem to watch this year.

PREP SPORTS: What is the team’s favorite memory together?

The team’s favorite memory together would be winning our school’s 12th district championship and first in a decade.

PREP SPORTS: What has been the biggest impression the team has made on you (the coach), and why?

Being a young coach these guys taught me how to lighten up at times and to enjoy the ride. I think as coaches sometimes we are focused on winning winning winning but miss the little things that can oftentimes leave the biggest impression/memories.

PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite part of working with this team?

My favorite part of working with this team is the camaraderie that they have as a group. Everyone gets along and there is no selfish play.

PREP SPORTS: Does the team participate in any community service projects?

Our kids volunteer and host youth basketball camps for our elementary students as well as referee and run the youth tournament that we host every year.

PREP SPORTS: Are you any players involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?

We have multiple students who participate in academic excellence activities. We take great pride in being leaders in the school and in the community.
