Q&A with Seneca’s Cody Hilburn – Coach Spotlight – Presented by People’s Bank of Seneca

Seneca Football Coach Cody Hilburn recently completed an interview with Prep Sports to talk about his team and tell us about who he is.

PREP SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the team this season?

My goal for our team is always to get better each and every day and hopefully be playing our best football come playoff time.

PREP SPORTS: What has been your best moment from this last year?

Probably the best moment from last year was winning the quarterfinal game at home in front of our home crowd.

PREP SPORTS: Who is your favorite coworker, and why?

I enjoy working with our entire football staff. We have a great group of guys who spend a lot of time together during the season.

PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite coaching-related memory?

Probably winning the District Championship in my first year at Seneca.  Those seniors got put in a tough spot getting a new coach their senior year and they showed up and worked every day and bought into every change we made. To see that pay off for them was a great experience.

PREP SPORTS: What has been the biggest impression the team has made on you, and why?

It’s still early in the season but we appear to have a group of guys that want to be coached. They show up with great attitudes every day wanting to get better.

PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite part of working with this team?

My favorite part about working with all the teams we’ve had is teaching them life lessons outside of football. Getting to have conversations with them about other things than football and hopefully helping them transition into being great dads and husbands someday.

PREP SPORTS: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go and who do you take with you?

Somewhere in the mountains with my family.

PREP SPORTS: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

I would give it to my wife and kids to have some fun with during football season.

PREP SPORTS: Do you participate in any community service projects?

Our football program has helped with various things in the community such as handing out groceries and helping with the 4th of July.
