Annie Caputo, a Seneca cheerleader, said having a good cheer squad is important, but potentially more than that is the dynamic between the teammates on the squad.
“I think it is more important to have a good relationship with each other so we can work hard and hit all of our stunts while having fun,” Caputo said. “Also, if you have a good squad it makes it easy to cheer for the boys while cheering on our school.”
Cheer season ends in March, but there is only about a month off for Caputo and her teammates.
“Tryouts last a whole week and we learn the material for three days. Then on Friday we tryout,” Caputo said. “We usually have three judges and get evaluated on five different categories. It is a very stressful week but at the end of the week it is so fun meeting your new teammates.”
As a sophomore, Caputo and her team won state and that is a memory Caputo will never forget.
“It was a great feeling knowing all your hard work got noticed,” Caputo said. “My whole team was crying and we were all just relieved and so happy.”
Caputo plans to attend the University of Arkansas next year and wants to study business.
