Q&A with Seneca’s Brandi Tice – Band Spotlight – Presented by Rally Networks

Seneca band member Brandi Tice recently completed an interview with Prep Sports.

PREP SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?

One of the biggest personal goals I still have to accomplish before the year comes to an end is to finish out all my dual credit courses with a 90% or above. This will allow me to graduate high school with 29 college credit hours.

PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory has to be the 4 hour bus ride back from our marching band winning state. I have never been part of a police escort until then and it was so cool, especially because it was almost 3am when we got back to the school. The whole state experience felt like a fever dream.

PREP SPORTS: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

This is a trick question. I feel like there have been a few people in the band program who have left an impression on me, two of them were upperclassmen that I got to watch graduate and continue pursuing their dreams (Eli and Mallori). One of them is in the same grade as me (Ty Meyer). But I think Tessa has left the BIGGEST impression on me. She’s younger than me and is completely fearless. She is always there when you need her and I know she’s going to accomplish great things.

PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

I think my favorite part is the opportunity it provides you to reach out to the community and be involved in supporting other sports such as football, cheer, basketball, wrestling, etc.

PREP SPORTS: Do you participate in any community service projects?

During the years that I’ve been involved in this program I’ve gone with friends I’ve made along the way to participate in a few different community service projects. I think my favorite one was volunteering at Hope’s Kitchen my freshman year of high school. It was a great opportunity to see what people can do to help others when they come together as a community.

PREP SPORTS: What clubs or campus groups are you involved with and why?

I am involved with National Honor Society. I was induced my Junior year and I wasn’t really sure what to expect but I had seen upperclassmen before me make a big fuss about it. I’m glad I joined because the program does some really fun things to help the community. One that I got to participate in was dressing up as a pirate with my friends to give out candy at the elementary Trunk-or-Treat!

PREP SPORTS: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

It has taught me so many things but one of the most important that I have definitely utilized my senior year is that it is okay to let go. I am the type of person who has always tried to take charge when I feel necessary and being a part of the SHS band has taught me that I don’t need to always take charge. It is okay to let other people take the reins and to work as a group.

PREP SPORTS: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Some of the best advice that I have been given is to put myself first. I love to help others and make people happy and sometimes that can really start to consume my life. There are two or three important people in my life who have helped advise me that it is okay to put myself first and I will forever thank them.

PREP SPORTS: Who inspired you and why?

I have many people I look up to but someone who I find truly inspiring is my Senior year drum tech, Cameron Jones. No matter what he had going on in his own life he always found a way to put that aside and to make time to support and help grow our percussion section as well as other members of the band. He dedicated lots of late nights and early morning to our success but also to making sure that we all individually grew to be better as a person. I aspire to be as great of a leader as he is someday.

PREP SPORTS: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

My mom, grandma Martine, and my aunt Janie deserve as much thanks as I can possibly give! They’re always there to support me when I need it in anyway they can! I’m going to miss having them watch me perform under Friday night lights.
