Parker Long enjoyed a great season with her teammates at Seneca. She received 2nd team All-District honors and was Big 8 West Honorable Mention. She was also the varsity team’s dig leader with 351 digs (3.8 per set), the kill leader with 215, while holding the highest serve receive pass rating of 2.2.
We caught up with Parker to discuss what it means to her to be the unsung hero of the team.
VYPE: Coach said you were the unsung hero of your team, what does that mean to you?
Long: It’s very humbling to hear that. I couldn’t have been the “unsung hero” of the team without each and every one of my teammates by my side. I have a lot of passion for the game and push myself harder and harder every day.
VYPE: Do you have a role mode or athlete you look up to?
Long: Haley Dunkin is definitely my biggest role model. She was a senior my freshman year of high school and she was always such a great team player that never gave up, no matter the circumstances. She helped everyone out in a positive, encouraging way and I respected that and still respect it.
VYPE: When did you start playing your sport and what position do you play? What position would you like to try?
Long: I started playing volleyball in second grade. I am an outside hitter (OH) and defensive specialist (DS). I would love to try libero because defense is what I love the most about the sport.
