Seneca’s Dane Napier – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by John Cotten Roofing

Dane Napier enters his senior season at Seneca High School, competing on the Indians football and wrestling teams. Napier plays on both sides ball on the football field, where he starts at the running back and free safety positions. Last season, Napier was named to the 2020-21 Big 8 Conference Team as an honorable mention at the linebacker position. This season, Napier transitioned from outside linebacker to free safety, having started as one of the team’s linebackers the past two seasons.

“I’m way more comfortable stepping up to make a tackle, so it’s been a transition having to drop back more in pass coverage,” Napier said. “But I’m excited for the challenge and have been working hard at getting better at it.”

Napier’s currently third on the team in tackles and was voted team captain by his teammates at the start of the season.

“Dane is a smart player with great effort,” coach Cody Hilburn said. “Dane is a two-way player who also contributes on special teams. He very seldom comes off the football field. He’s also a great leader for us.”

Napier was also named to the 2020-21 Big 8 Conference team as an honorable mention at the 182-pound weight class. The recognition came after Napier’s best season, in which he became a first-time state qualifier.
